WHAT is myopia?

It is also known as short-sightedness and means that more distant objects appear blurry but close objects appear clearly.

WHY is myopia an issue?

Myopia is very common and will affect lots of us – having to wear glasses or contact lenses can be inconvenient, but not thought to be a major problem.

What you might not know is how myopia affects eye health. If you are myopic, you are significantly more at risk of developing other eye conditions, such as retinal detachment and glaucoma, and the risk is greater the more short-sighted you are.

WHAT can we do about it?

Limiting the amount of time which youngsters spend closely working on something up to 30cm from their eyes and encouraging plenty of time outdoors have both been demonstrated to have an influence.

There is also now a new and exciting alternative option to manage the condition. MiYOSMART lenses are new and innovative spectacle lenses, which have been shown to slow the progression of myopia by an average of 60%.

The award-winning lenses look just like normal spectacle lenses, and children adapt to them easily. By choosing MiYOSMART, you are giving your child the best chance of good eye health when they are older.

WHO are MiYOSMART lenses suitable for?

All children who are short-sighted, even if only very slightly. In particular, children who start to become short-sighted at a younger age, and who have a parent(s) who are also short-sighted.

WHEN should a child begin wearing MiYOSMART lenses?

As soon as myopia is detected.

WHERE can my child get them from?

David Henderson Opticians is proud to be able to supply MiYOSMART lenses. All of our professional staff are trained to advise on and dispense MiYOSMART lenses.
